Present professional functions Professor of law (Gewoon Hoogleraar) at University of Ghent and Adjunct Professor at American University ( Washington College of Law), Washington D.C. Director of the Department of Procedural Law, Arbitration and Private International Law (with as Department members Professors. K. Broeckx, S. Lust, P. Taelman, D. Van Poucke and H. Verbist plus lawyers-assistants and legal researchers and administrative personnel) at the University of Ghent, Teaching at the Ghent Law School, since October 1981, with tenure; presently the following courses : - Private international law for 4 th year law students (in Dutch): 45 hours per year plus exercises; - Advanced study of international contractual relationships – elective course in Masters programme (4 th & 5 th year students), in Dutch: 45 hours per year;
Teaching at the Washington College of Law ( American University): since 1985 (different courses); presently the Course: "International Licensing Agreements", a 3-credit class; Member of the Bar , Ghent, Belgium Arbitrator in International Commercial Arbitration: practitioner in commercial arbitration on ad-hoc-basis and before several institutions: I.C.C.-Paris; and CEPANI Brussels, Stockholm Chamber of Commerce. Also a listed arbitrator of CIETAC – Beijing; listed arbitrator of the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce, of the Beijing Arbitration Commission - BAC and of the Arbitration Centre and of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce – Zagreb Conciliator - Appointed on the list of Members of the panel of conciliators and arbitrators at the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes with the World Bank, Washington DC, established by the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and Nationals of Other States of March 18, 1965 to resolve disputes under the rules of the Centre (designated by Belgium, April 2007 until 2013) Advisor to the University of Ghent and to several University Professors on the commercialization of inventions and intellectual property-rights and on related tax-planning, since 1982 (twenty-seven years of experience in licensing) Member of Public examination boards (Ministry of Foreign Affairs - diplomatic career; and Council of State for knowledge of legal terminology in Dutch) Founding Member of the “Private International Law Group” of Belgian professors of law. Member of the executive board of "Internationaal Juridisch Instituut", an Institute for practical consultation by Dutch authorities and law-firms in the area of conflicts of law and foreign substantive law, at The Hague ( Netherlands), from 1995 til present. Vice-President of the Association Belge de Droit International / Belgisch Genootschap voor Internationaal Recht (ABDI/BGIR), from 1995. Board Member and from 2005: Vice-President of the Executive Board of the Belgian Centre for National and International Arbitration (CEPANI/CEPINA). Member of the “Industrieel Onderzoeksfonds” (IOF) of the University of Gent (since 2006). |
