Arbitration practice

Independent arbitrator

• as a lawyer
• as an academic: advising, coaching, publishing and teaching an advanced course on conflict resolution in private law,
• and throughout my years in practice as a company lawyer.

I am active in the «Belgian Center for Mediation and Arbitration», Cepina/Cepani (Belgisch Centrum voor mediatie en arbitrage/ Centre Belge d’abitrage et de médiation) – Vice-President from 2005-present.

I have been listed in Beijing with CIETAC; in Shanghai with the Shanghai Arbitration Center; in Zagreb, with the Croatian Chamber of Commerce; I have been listed (2007-2013) by the Belgian Government on the list of ICSID arbitrators and Mediators of the Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington DC.

I have acted as arbitrator, judging as a sole arbitrator or in a tribunal (panel) in 30 arbitrations, before institutes of commercial arbitration – International Chamber of Commerce Court of Arbitration in Paris, the Court or Arbitration of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, the Belgian Center for Mediation and arbitration - as well as in ad hoc arbitration tribunals,

covering issues of:

• corporate law, valuation of shares, take-overs, et al.,
• contract law – in building construction disputes, industrial construction of machinery, shipbuilding,
• maritime law,
• international sale of goods, international payments by L/C;
• software development,
• licensing agreements,
• infringement of intellectual property rights

I have published about issues of arbitration law and have been promotor to doctoral dissertations on arbitration law.
